Either way, it doesn’t negate the point that they can’t even take more of the Ukraine than some of the East. You act like they’re ready to form the Soviet Union again.

So far they can’t, thankfully, and probably mostly due to Western support for Ukraine.

They’ve certainly shown themselves desiring to reclaim their former Soviet territories. It’s been one of Putins’ more consistent policy goals, demonstrated in practice over and over for the last 2 decades or so.

I’ll agree with you that he almost certainly can’t succeed, but that doesn’t mean he can’t cause a gigantic amount of suffering in his attempts.
