I lived and worked in several countries transitioning from communism to democracy, doing my small part to help with that transition. It’s not an easy one, of course. Commie habits die hard after being the norm for decades. The good little commie bureaucrats who remained in their jobs after free and fair elections (gotta keep the bureaucracy running!) still demanded bribes to process simple paperwork as in commie days of old, and still compiled Lists and started rumors of Lists. It was effective and intimidated the ordinary law-abiding people who had long been subjected to threats of Lists under the commie regimes.
You can imagine how scary these Lists were to these people, especially during transition to capitalism and legalization of private property. They stood to lose their homes if the paper pushers found them on a List. Other Lists were rumored to be of those who would be thrown in prison and all their property confiscated (ka-ching! for the paper pushers). It was so very sad to see.
Well, I’m not worried about this silly list. So I’m a designated target for slander, name calling, false accusations and insults. Nothing changes there. It is mildly annoying when one of them stalks me from thread to thread posting ridiculous insults a dozen times and more after being informed I have put him on ignore, but only because it glops up my ping page. Some people are just desperate for attention, I guess. And that’s sad, too.
Of course it’s a division tactic. No, they’re not kidding. Like all cult members (and those ideologically possessed), their first and only loyalty is to the cult (or ideology). Everything else is just a means to an end, including FR.
Oh, I forgot to say hardcore authoritarian Muslims make Lists, too. I’ve seen it with my own eyes Someone they don’t like caught smoking or eating during daylight during Ramadan? On The List! Reported to military or civilian superior, disciplined or fired. Of course they sometimes lied about the smoking or eating. Kept people in terror of the List Makers.
These List Makers on FR hardly terrorize me, though. I feel kinda sorry for them. What a sad way to live.
