NPR actually read on air the Emancipation Proclamation on Juneteenth. People will be confused.
A better choice would have been Gen. Grangers general orders which he read to the citizens of Galveston, which is when most slaves in Texas learned they were free.
NPR usually reads the Declaration if Independence on July 4th, I will have to pay attention and see if they even bother this year.
Jan. 1st is already a federal day off. I’m positive that they found some obscure reason to make in June 19th so it would give them another day off between that “long” stretch between Memorial Day and Independence day. And also up their quota of woke BLM crap.
It was on June 19th, two years AFTER the proclamation, that it was physically announced to the folks in Galveston by some visiting General.

The current thought is whites puposely kept blacks in the dark about their freedom to subjugate them. It is the CRT holiday of separation and guilt; divisive at its core
