Since May 16, a total of 2,439 Azov Nazis and AFU servicemen blocked inside the plant have laid down their arms and surrendered during the operation.
Today, the last group of 531 militants surrendered.
{1398 had surrendered in earlier days at Ilyich plant, largely marines)
These were not random citizens, they were soldiers in uniform. I did notice a small number of police in the video, i don’t know if they count as military police.
By wearing uniform they get full geneva protection, maybe less if they are mercenary

I've personally seen video after video from those in Mariupol and Donbass that have said the Ukrainian military and Azovs used them as human shields and tried to kill them if they tried to leave.

Russia fomented the civil war and armed the separatists and sent in troops to support the separatists. I July, 2014 a civilian airliner was shot down by a Buk SAM launched from pro-Russia separatist controlled Donbas, about 30 miles from the Russian border. That SAM was a Russian weapon, supplied to the separatists by Russia. Russia was ACTIVELY engaged in the civil war. But, you know that, don’t you?
That civil war has been going on since 2014, all the time encouraged and supplied by Russia. Russia even flooded eastern Ukraine with Russian passports to gin up the ruse that Russian citizens were being exterminated in a genocide. Vlad just took a page out of the playbook of another fascist in 1938 and 1939.

At least 14,000 or more civilian residents of the eastern part of Ukraine have been killed since 2014 by Ukrainian military and Nazi battalions. Many of these areas want to leave Ukraine, voted in referenda to leave, and Ukraine did not allow them to leave, violating an international agreement. Ukraine has gone completely rogue since 2014.

Oh, for God’s sake. Read up on the Russo-Georgian War of 2008. It is eerily similar to the pretenses Putin used against Ukraine in 2022. Georgia, a former USSR republic, declared independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It started to embrace the West, which Russia (Putin) found intolerable. The same scenario: A group of separatists in Georgia wanted to align with Russia; Russia went into to help them in their quest for “independence,” and the war was on. You all think Russia is some innocent do-gooder, wanting to help the “poor oppressed” people of the world (especially former republics of the USSR). Bull crap: Russia is an international bully and has always been one. And Putin is on record saying he wants to bring the former Soviet republics into the Russian Federation.
Russia doesn’t give a crap for the Ukrainian people (hell, there is long-standing animosity — indeed, hatred — between the two). But Russia wants the natural resources of Ukraine, and control of the entire north coast of the Black Sea.
Don’t drink the Kool-Aid. Read some history, draw your own conclusions, and think for yourself.
