If one wants to add context to a tweet, can’t they just put in a reply?

I don't know anything about Twitter: Is it possible for the OP to block replies?

But in such cases, anyone with a dissenting opinion could simply post his own tweet, right?

Neither do I. I suppose Twitter could block edits as well, without us knowing about the blocking.
