Moulin Rouge delayed my posting today....
Can you tell where tank kills are coming from? Or what kind of weapon took them out?
Its been roughly 2.5 months since the start of the invasion.
At this loss rate — Russians will be out of tanks in another 2.5 months. Or roughly the beginning of august.
Might be for the better for them. Has there been an instance in this where tanks have proved to be decisive anywhere in Ukraine.
Sounds as if a major push was started on May 3rd. 43 tanks lost in six days!
There are quite a few tanks in the Russian reserve stockpiles.
We do not know what state of repair they are in, or how many will be able to be brought into service.
That number could, reasonably, be between a few hundred and a few thousand.
Hey Sweden.... wanna grab St Petersburg?
Mostly its artillery that takes tracked vehicles out when they are parked on roads and open fields - most are spotted by UAVs on both sides. In the Donbas region, the UA lines over look the Orcs and from there they pound them.
The 1200 figure for tanks is only a guesstimate - there may be more or fewer.
see my post nest for more into.
With the corruption in the Russian armed services that has been exposed, I would imagine that the stockpiled tanks have not had faithful preventative maintenance pulled on them, if at all. That probably means that about 75+% of the tanks are non-operational and will require rebuilding to bring them up to standard. That will simply not happen in the time frame of this war.
Pssst! Dangus, direct that remark to Finland!

_______Fun Facts: Sergei Shoigu, who has rarely appeared in public for the two and a half months of Russia’s war in Ukraine. You wouldn’t know it from the medals, but he never served a day in the army; the uniform and medals worn by Shoigu aren’t for military service; the medals are mostly commemorative coins for anniversaries and services to the census. He probably paid good money to obtain the position.
_______Putin’s speech was only moderately saber-rattling - almost solely comprised of justifications he’s already made for the war in Ukraine and devoid of nuclear threats.
**The bridge at Bilhorod-Dnistrovis’kyi is apparently still functioning despite being hit many times. Meaning fuel can get in from Romania and some agriculture products can still be exported.
**Popasna has fallen
**No other strategic comments today.
Summary:
Key areas:
- Izyum bridgehead - no expansion today.
- Russian troops are slowly mopping up corner between Oskil and Siverskiy Donets rivers controlled by Ukrainian side before. No changes today or yesterday.
- Zaporizhya frontline - no changes today.
- Ukrainian army has lost control over Popasna - Russian troops are squeezing line around Severodonetsk and attempting to establish bridgeheads near Bilogorivka and Pryvillya. Russian side claims that it has established bridgehead near Bilogorivka.
1. Kharkiv: Ukrainian troops are slowly pushing Russian side out - they captured village of Lyptsi, Vesele. Russian is withdrawing its battle-worn troops from here to Russian territory.
2. Izyum bridgehead: No major Russian progress today. It is extremely dangerous penetration by Russian troops that potentially could lead to large pocket for Ukrainian troops west of Donetsk.
3. Lyman bridgehead. No changes today.
**7th TB and 245sfB pushing Lyman to surround the UA 79th forcing them yo withdraw and cutting off other UA units
4. Popasna, Rubizhne and Severodonetsk. Russian troops captured all of Rubizhne. Russian mercenaries - Wagner Group operates in Popasna, also Russian 57 brigade operates there as well. Confirmed capture of Popasna by Russian troops.
**Popasna fully under Orc control. Very negative development for UA.
**May force UA to withdraw from Severodonetsk without a fight.
**Will force large chunk of territory to be ceded to Orcs.
**Major road, west of Popasna, which supplies UA troops, under heavy Orc shelling.
5. West of Donetsk: Avidyivka and Maryinka. Avdiyivaka - never ending attempts of the Russian side to break-through there. Russian forces captured village called Troitske, attacking towards Novobakhmutivka.
6. Vugledar is in Ukrainian hands.
7. Velyka Novosilka - Gulyapole stretch of frontline. Ukrainian strongholds are towns of Gulyaypole and village of Velyka Novosilka. Russian 19D is operating there. Russian troops are consolidating their gains. Also, 42D has been spotted in the area. Russian troops captured village Vremivka attached to Velyka Novosilka from west and separate by small river. The most northern group of Russian troops has been stopped before village of Vilne Pole. Ukranian side brought its 128 brigade and regiment Azov Kyiv to stop Russian advance there. No Russian progress here today.
**Velyka Novosilka - Gulyapole region where Orcs are trying to create northward pincer.
8. No new attacks on Orikhiv.
9. Mariupol: opportunity to do a breakout attempt by the Ukrainian forces might have been lost as density of Russian troops increased due to smaller perimeter. Based on other sources, opportunity to break out is still viable.
10. Mykolayiv: No major changes.
**Mention of Snakes Island. UA believes it of strategic importance. M-777s shelling island. Recapturing island will achieve nothing because Orc navy still controls Ukraine waters and ports.
Now there is a mix of unit designations Division and Battalion.
Here’s a list of the units in the Ukraine vicinity:
**Lists of Orc Forces Identified:
**List of available 33 Orc Mech. Brigades
4MC, 7MC, 9, 15, 18, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 28, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 55, 57, 59, 60, 64, 69, 70, 74, 80, 83, 136, 138, 205
**List of 17 Uncommitted Mech. Brigades
9, 18, 19, 25, 28, 32, 33, 34, 36, 55, 59, 60, 69, 70, 80, 83, 136
**List of 5 Kivi-East Group 15, 27, 30, 35, 74
**List of 4 Izyum Bridgehead Group
21, 23, 38, 39
**List of 1 unclear locations:
64 - this is the Brigade accused of war crimes, now looks like it has been withdrawn from Ukraine.
**List of 6 other locations:
4MC (Military Camp), 7MC, 37, 57, 138, 205
**Tank Brigades: ->converted to
All available:
5th TB, 6th TB->47th TD, 7th TB->90th TD, 4th TD
Kyiv-East: 90th TD
Kyiv-West: 5th TB Izyum Bridgehead: 4th TD
No reserves.
Other groups from the 20th Army, 8th Army, 58th Army:
2mD, 3mD, 3sfB, 10sfB, 12sfB, 14sfB, 24sfB, 45sfBl, 46B (141Rgt, 249Bt “South”), 61NB (Naval Brigade), 155NB, 336NB, 40NB, 7 (Kaliningrad Coastal Defense), 12EngB, 46MC, 201MC, 7MC, 42D, 19D, 20, 33/20D, 17B->70/42D, 1AK (5,15, 100,1), 2AK (4,7,3)
And now that you are thoroughly confused, none of the smaller divisions are even close to Western unit make up (totally forget the “BTG” terminology - a Western construct).
For instance: there are 2 kinds of Mechanized Infantry Brigades, each with a different, but similar, make up. Call them Type A and Type B.
Type A has 2 tank battalions (~60 T-72 tanks), 2 Infantry battalions, Engineer battalion, Recon battalion, 2 self propelled arty battalions (could be up to 3 battalions), MLRS (Grad) battalion, AA battalion, Comm battalion, UAV battalion (Orlon-10), Sniper battalion, and Support battalion. Self-sufficient.
Type B has 3 infantry battalions (mixed as A& B below), 1 Tank battalion.
Infantry battalions in each Brigade are of two types, call them A & B.
A has ~540 troops, 49 BTR-82s, 8 120MM Mortars, 6 AGS-17s, 15 AT missile. 3 SPG-9s.
3 companies of about 109-110 troops each.
Fighting force about 300 troops.
B has ~460 troops, 42 - BMP-2s, 8 120mm mortars, 6 AGS-17s, 15 AT missiles, 3 SPG-9s. 3 companies of 91 troops. Fighting force about 270 troops.
Troops on the frontline are never more than half the battalion, but more like 40%
Hope this helps clarify things ...
One thing that is a bit unclear is what happens to those that have been captured/damaged.
My guess is that some of those that were temporarily in the possession of some Ukrainian farmers were later recaptured by the Russians. That may extend how many months the Russians can stay in this mess.
“Can you tell where tank kills are coming from? Or what kind of weapon took them out?”
Some of the Soviet tanks obligingly destroy themselves. Not unlike how Soviet submarines tend to sink themselves.
Many have been placed into service by the UA. Ukraine is thought to be in possession of more tanks currently than they started the war with, including losses.
There are quite a few tanks in the Russian reserve stockpiles. We do not know what state of repair they are in, or how many will be able to be brought into service. That number could, reasonably, be between a few hundred and a few thousand.
—
That number is Zero. Orcs have no tank reserves, other than those attached to active units not in Ukraine. The entirety of the RGF had only about 2,500 working tanks before they invaded. The RGF is not the Soviet Army. Those days are gone.
All the rest are scrap metal, rusting, stripped for parts, engines sold on black market. They cannot be repaired - the expense would be far too much for Orc Land to afford - worse, any such effort would find much of the money stolen.
Orc tank factories have shut down for lack of chips and other embargoed tech. There are no new tanks coming for the Orc hoards.

*bangs head on table* I knew better, I swear!
HOWEVER, it should not be forgotten that the Swedes and Russians fought a couple of wars in the early 1700s, so Sweden taking St. Pete is not as far fetched as one might think!
Yeah, that’s how I made the mistake: I was thinking geographically of Finland, but of the wars with Sweden because at the time, Finland was part of the Russian Empire and Sweden was the nearest neighbor.
That was awesome! Thank you for sharing!
I try to post as soon as Speedy posts his Assault on Europe post.
