Let’s say I sell artichokes.

I contact twitter and ask them who is discussing artichokes on their platform.

Without providing actual names, they can provide info like how many users posted/liked/shared on artichokes by zip code or something.

So let’s say North Carolina zip codes have a lot of artichoke action and South Carolina has none.

I now can direct my advertising in NC and not spend any in SC.

Alternatively, I may want to try to break into the SC market by tailoring my advertising to draw in people who might be interested in trying something new whereas in NC, I may focus more on things like what oils go-better-with, or what not.

So I contact twitter again and they tell me that all the NC artichoke lovers also are on the Godfather movie threads and they provide me all the SC folks who are on those same threads.

Again, if I want to break into SC, I might make sure my artichoke ads appear alongside anything associated with the Godfather in SC.

Persistence is the key to winning this race.
When Christ said the Meek inherits the Earth, He was referring to those who just don’t know how to quit.

Love that analysis! And to frank all of us are somewhat cowed by our oppressive governments. We must have free speech and clean elections.

Torba sees and hears Billions of dollars being thrown around and now he wants in on it.

This stupid offer is so white trashy.

So they sell user information. Not sure whether or not I think that should be illegal.

It seems like the phone company listening to your conversations and then selling information about you.

Seems unethical.

Primarily advertising then selling of the user data.

Seems unethical and it makes me wonder if such a thing should be illegal.

Would we put up with the phone company selling information about what we discuss?

Minimal ads. Low expenses. Huge market share.

Have no experience with "twitter", always thought it would end up like the great tulip bubble.

Others have told me it makes money by selling user information, and I very much don't like that. It seems exploitative and unethical.

Not to mention Twitter has made it so that people have to sign up to Twitter and log in to see Islamicat.

I’m wondering if they did that to goose membership numbers.

Twitter kicked me off three years ago.

I won’t sign up again, not even for Islamicat.

This is a badly presented proposal:

Agreed. “This is my best and final offer.” doesn’t leave room for collaboration, negotiation, improving the idea, working together, or synergy. It’s largely the opposite of free speech. I’m not on Gab, but this statement makes my joining less likely.

“FR censures just like twitter.”

FR is privately owned site that clearly states “Conservative Forum”.

Like every “free” social media, it runs ads targeted towards your interests. It might let other web sites you visit know your interests and demographics so you’ll get more relevant ads on other sites. That part is not particularly unethical. It is practically everywhere but this site.

Twitter was thriving until they banned Trump. It can implode for all I care.
