NATO Anti-Aircraft Weapon Donations Aren’t Covering Ukraine Losses
BY DAVID BRENNAN ON 4/11/22 AT 12:37 PM EDT

“Ukraine is believed to have had around 100 S-300 batteries before the invasion began, totalling some 300 launchers. Open source figures suggest it has lost at least 21 of the launchers—the equivalent of seven batteries. Newsweek has contacted Ukraine’s Defense Ministry to request comment.”

Had 300 launchers and lost 21?

Has 279 left?

Who knows? It’s all propaganda. None of these numbers are reliable.

You posted the numbers. Just asking.

But having 279 out of 300 sounds pretty good for Ukraine.

Thanks for the positive data.

At least an entire Division of tanks, plus. You get to over 600 and you’re looking at two.

That’s like losing the 1st and 4th Armored. I can’t even fathom that.

The Oryx count is, by far, the most reliable such near-real time info ever made available to the global public. Its even more reliable than the info available to the high command in most prior wars.

This count is a bare minimum, or close to it. Many vehicles would not have had their pictures taken, especially those whose wreckage lies behind Russian lines. At this point I would add 50% to Oryx for an estimate, which is still probably conservative.

At least an entire Division of tanks, plus.

US Division has 58 tanks, the Marines has 44.

Russia does not use the ‘Division’ designation.

Russian Tank Regiment (a lot of variation in numbers - so ball park):
4 Companies = 1 Battalion=40 tanks
3 Battalions = Tank Regiment=120 + 3 Command Tanks=123

479 lost or the equivalent of 3.8 Russian Tank Regiments and climbing ...

Marines are likely from the 58th Combined Arms Army. Maybe the rest also.

I bet a majority of Russian’s in that convoy don’t want to re-enter Ukraine.

“U.S. “does not object” to the provision of fixed-wing fighters to Ukraine, such as Soviet-era MiG-29 jets after Slovakia floated a transfer: senior U.S. defense official

The U.S. nixed a Polish deal to give MiGs to Ukraine through American military base in Germany in March”

OK. Lets go around in circles again.

“A “significant amount” of the 100 Switchblade drones sent in President Biden’s recent $800 million security assistance package to Ukraine are now in Ukraine.”

Still not clear to me if 100 Switchblade Drones = 100 Switchblade Systems.

Senior U.S. defense official🧵:
-The new Russian convoy is about 37 miles north of Izyum

“We do assess that it’s moving, but not at breakneck speed ... It includes some command and control elements, some enablers.”

On Russian convoy:

“We think it’s also intended for resupply — perhaps, an effort to amend their poor performance and logistics and sustainment in the north.”

No indications that the Ukrainians have attempted any attacks on the convoy headed toward Izyum in eastern Ukraine.

The convoy is “staying on highways and avenues — they’re not they’re not going off roading here.”
