The terrain in the east and south is more flat and open.
Harder to do ambushes.
A drawn out slugfest is possible.

no need for ambushes when they can stand off a mile or two during the day with a tv screen and loitering munitions. those are the switchblades coming. plus more drones coming for night runs to augment the ones already in operation.
when they get there in bulk—the russians are done.
