Digital cameras was one of the great disruption events. Seemed like the blink of an eye that everybody (except the professionals) stopped using film based cameras.
In the mid 1990s, I had purchased my first and only high end film camera with a detachable zoom lens and all the other bells and whistles. It was a Minolta and I think I paid about $800 at the time and got it from Hunts Photo in Melrose, MA, which was a really high end store. I probably still have it in a cardboard box somewhere in mint condition.
I have some negatives (but they’re not really negative) of photos taken with “medium format” in the late ‘80s that I’d love to have processed. I’ve called, emailed, etc., so many photo processors and they’ve basically never heard of such a thing.
