I am re-reading the book “Blacklisted by History” by M. Stanton Evans. Best book on the subject, hands down, by someone who witnessed the travesty in real time who also did independent research on it.
What is astonishing is that Leftist tactics are exactly the same. Exactly. Lie. Deceive. Obfuscate. Collaborate with the press. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
There is an interesting incident associated with the political and personal assassination of McCarthy by the Left. McCarthy was accused of lying to the press in a speech he gave in Wheeling, West Virgina, the key point of contention being whether he said there were 205 employees of the State Department who were communists, or 57.
He said it was 57 in his speech, and his enemies said it was 205. As proof they used a newspaper article, in which the authors of the article who had been there said he said 205 communists and gave an affidavit swearing to it. McCarthy said they had taken it from a draft of his speech beforehand, which he warned them had errors in it and that he was going to re-work it before the speech. (The draft showed the number 205 which had been crossed out.)
Now, it was stupid to make an issue out of whether it was 57 or 205, but they were doing back then what the Left does today-they didn’t really care if it was 57 or 205. They just wanted to paint him as a liar, which they did. If the number he used turned out to be 57 and anyone ever called them on it, they would ignore it and simply move on as if they had never said it.
The point is, the only recording of the speech by a radio station had been destroyed the day after the speech which in those days, was not unusual. (probably recorded over it to reuse the tape)
When they had the confrontation about it in the Senate, the scumbag Millard Tydings brought in a phonograph record and asked permission to play the speech McCarthy had given to show the world that McCarthy was a liar, and to nail him with his own recorded words.
However, when he testified under oath, he had to admit he had no phonograph record of McCarthy’s speech. It didn’t exist.
Sounds a lot like today’s Leftists, doesn’t it? Tydings sounds a lot like Adam Schiff.
