This would probably be a good time to remind everyone that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) refused to endorse Donald Trump for president at the RNC nominating convention back in 2016. We could have ended up with “President Hillary Clinton” because of that petty stunt, but fortunately, support for Trump was way too massive.
Cruz is easy to like for those of us on the right, so it’s always painful to watch when he has one of those “moments” where he figuratively pours gas on himself and lights a match. He had another one this week when delivering a speech in the Senate. Cruz said that the January 6 protests were a “violent terrorist attack,” using the approved talking points of Nancy Pelosi to describe what was actually a mostly peaceful protest.
That speech earned Cruz a trip to the forefront of the world of memes, and this little gem where he’s wearing one of the pink yarn hats from the Women’s March. A violent terrorist attack?
Good grief! Many of the people targeted by the Justice Department since that day are our friends and neighbors. It really was a mostly peaceful protest. Whose side is Ted Cruz on, anyway?

The January 6 terrorist attack on the Capitol was a dark moment in our nation's history, and I fully support the ongoing law enforcement investigations into anyone involved. Everyone who attacked the Capitol must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and brought to justice. I also support the Senate committees of jurisdiction who are exercising their proper oversight roles to provide an in-depth and complete account of the attack. With multiple investigations already underway, I do not support the politically motivated January 6 Commission led by Sen. Schumer and Speaker Pelosi. - May 28, 2021
Still up on Ted Cruz's senate site.
It was no mistake by Cruz. It's been his description of the events for half a year at least.
“He (Trump) is definitely not someone I’d sit and have a beer with.”
I think that this might your own ‘unforced error’ here.
Texas is not going to get a more conservative senator than Ted Cruz. I don’t know why he’s doing what he’s doing, but you don’t throw away a vote in the Senate because you like some moron’s stupid meme.
It would be a huge mistake as there is so much on the line in November.
Sooo, let’s not stone him to death, but I don’t think that anyone should be just patting him on the back. With his foot in his mouth, he may fall over.
Being suddenly one legged, we can call him “Eileen “, the question is , which way?
Ditto this.
>>I agree in that I think Cruz can win again, but.......
Ted Cruz........ ... 4,260,553 .. 50.9%
Beto O’Rourke... 4,045,632 .. 48.3
Neal Dikeman ... ... 65,470 .. 0.8<<
Yep. $$$ millions $$$ of out of state dollars poured into the state to turn it blue. This is why it is so critical to hold our seats in the Senate and hopefully gain one or two.
We eat our own and we erode the ability to do just that at a critical juncture.
Look, I can’t stand Lindsey Graham, John Cornyn...folks that we all feel are RINOs. If a good solid candidate were to run against Cornyn or Ted Cruz and I felt they’d have an above average chance of competing against whatever leftist they’ll be running against...well I’d vote for the more conservative candidate.
I’m not a Cruz-bot or a Trump-bot or an anybody else bot. I vote for the MOST conservative candidate who has the best chance of winning. Period.
Even Trump. If he runs again in 2024, I’ll get behind him...unless there is another candidate I feel would be more conservative. Just the way I roll. I don’t idolize anyone.
He did not make a “mistake” in the words he carefully chose to describe his feelings and thoughts on the democrat-staged, Jan 6, event.
I don’t know what he was thinking - that perhaps he’d regained enough favor amongst the unwashed to sway hearts and minds into believing Jan 6 WAS an “insurrection” by “right-wing terrorists”?
Or just to curry favor with the left and hoped “we” didn’t notice?
Whatever his reasons for joining sides with the likes Pelosi, he’s toast. If he’s the best Texas has to offer, get a new offering. There are better than Cruz. We don’t have to hang our hopes on another effing POS RINO.
But hey, we forgive you guys.
No, we don’t.
Be smart, not emotionally driven
Aah, don’t ‘think’ like a liberal.
>>We don’t have to hang our hopes on another effing POS RINO.<<
Point well taken. I must though mention Virginia’s dismal performance when it comes to conservative candidates.
Not being snarky, just pointing out politics is a nasty damn game and we not always get exactly what we want.
That would be the simple response.
Instead, stone him a little bit, but don’t kill him.
“More disgusting than calling that a violent terrorist attack, was Cruz remembering January 6 as a “solemn day” because politicians were afwaid rather than a day millions of Americans made their voices heard.”
Great point! Don’t adopt the Left’s paradigm. I hope Cruz has learned his lesson. But, as always, we have to be vigilant.
>>But hey, we forgive you guys.
No, we don’t.<<
So should we still hold bitter to the Florida debacle during the Bush Gore presidential election?
I mean after all, it was the state of Florida that brought us dimpled chads, hanging chads and that nonsense.
Pretty embarrassing to the nation that whole thing.
And then, Trump doesn’t ‘drink’.
Yes, and it forced the state to change procedures. And some county officials.
It was one of the first times that election diddling was obvious.
He went on Tucker, admitted his mistake, took another drubbing from Tucker, who rubbed Cruz's nose in his mess pretty thoroughly.
Cruz is an exceptionally smart man, but he has moments when he intellectually spazzes out and becomes an idiot for an hour or two.
“He apologized.”
No,not really. He weaseled. He did not say, “I am sorry I said that, it was dumb of me. It was NOT a terrorist attack, or anything close. Please forgive me.”
I sure do get the entire we have to win thing but sure does feel like the RNC sings this mantra over and over again. Then it is up to us conservatives to hold our noses and vote for closet Democrats like traitor McCain or Evil Romney. Hard to keep supporting those who reject our core values. Ted is another W or Romney. No true core values, just pursuit of power.
I agree. I’m going to show Ted some Grace. Tucker let him have it. It’s enough.
He needs to say “Americans who protested an election filled with fraud are patriots and not terrorists. They have been detained for over a yea done some in solitary confinement. We need to bring those who are responsible for such grievous actions to American citizens to justice and I will not rest until that happens.”
Then he needs to follow that up with real actions and not empty words.
