I have two ProtonMail accounts, one paid and one freebie for spam stuff. ProtonMail is a good alternative and I see many have also suggested it.

Thank you, will do.

I've had AOL email once the late 1990’s. No complaints. Free.

A couple years ago, I invested $5/mo to get access to their tech service for the first time. I was out of town and I had a radical crash of my iPhone 8 and had to get a new phone. Totally forgot what the passwords were for everything and had to reset several. For AOL, I had to fork over the $5 bucks to work through this with a tech person.

First, I am never dropping the AOL address (or my cell phone number) because all the family, friends and professional contacts have it. I have looked at some email clients at times that have better privacy technology though. Even if I do this, I would still keep AOL just because so many have it. I do have an ICloud email as well but have never used it.

I use eM Client to download email from Comcast. Been using it for a year or so. It’s a nice email app.

Proton Mail has a bridge that lets you link apple mail and Thunderbird to it, and I used the one for apple mail, but I am guessing that would let apple read my emails, so I use Proton Mail only.

I have been using Proton Mail (https://protonmail.com/) for several years, and am very pleased with it. It is a SECURE email, if the receiver is using Proton Mail to. They say even they cannot get into anybody’s mail. You have to make some changes to use it, but it is easy to do. It is free if you only need a little memory, and charge according to how much memory you need. 5GB is $4 per month, ProtonMail Professional Plans provide hosted encrypted email for your company. Use your own domain and create accounts for employees (e.g. john@mycompany.com). No price stated, and 20 GB for $24.

Linux uses Proton Mail.

I didn’t know Verizon bought Yahoo.

I’ll have to look into eliminating that account. I rarely use it anyway.

Using Hotmail myself.

I have a domain and use Bluehost.
https://www.bluehost.com
Easy setup, they have great support. My email is fast with them.
Do not use GoDaddy as they prefer Office 365 and your pop3 email will be very very slow. I found that out the hard way.

They also just do email.

Getting a domain and owning/managing your own email addresses is the best way (allows for best safety & security/encyption options)...2nd best way is something like “Proton Mail” out of Switzerland. Can be encrypted email all the way if the other person you are sending and receiving with is also using it. Free up to a point (space) and then paid...see:

Maybe ProtonMail is being politically naive, who knows?

A good email service is one that you own and control with no influence from others. If you have a domain and an IP address, get a desktop computer and install Server software and email software, YOU OWN IT and Nobody can do anything because it is Your Email service now.

You don’t buy domain name. Hover does, and does not charge you for that. You only pay like $20/year for your unique “firstname@lastname.org” address.

I got them for my whole family......many whose middle initial, like mine, is A. So the @ is our middle initial:
first name, @ for middle initial, lastname.org

Is that worth $20/year? I think so. And have for 21 years.

Hover sells the “lastname.org” to any/all who want their last name (IF available) .org as their email address.

Example: Your name is Robert Alfred Smith.

Your email address would be robert@smith.org

Many times every year I’m told how cool it is to have my name as my email.

If I don’t want my name out there, I use another Yahoo address......

But I also see that you can just use a Hover domain name itself, no? Like xxxxxx.xxx@hover.xxx?? No.
