The Guardian published a report in 2004 sounding the alarm bells over a “secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs” and obtained by sister newspaper The Observer. Here was the harrowing message, according to The Guardian: “[M]ajor European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a ‘Siberian’ climate by 2020.”

I’ll tell you what it will take to make me a believer in what the “experts” tell us about “climate change”.

First, remember in 2016 there was an eclipse of the sun and the experts were able to tell us, with great accuracy, where and when the eclipse would occur. This demonstrates understanding of the orbital systems.

So, I’ll believe these climate “experts” when they can demonstrate an understanding of the climate system well enough to predict, say, a Category 3 hurricane will make landfall within +/- one week from month/day/year at, say, Cocoa Beach, Florida +/- 50 miles. And of course, that has to come true.

Do that several times in a row and I’ll be convinced.

I think that prediction about Siberian winters for Europe by 2020 came out of the concept that global warming would be melting the Greenland ice so rapidly that the North Atlantic would be full of its cold meltwater and this would slow down the Gulf stream, force the jet stream south, and allow Siberian air to make the westward trek into Europe more often than had been the case in the recent past (up to 2004). The prediction was actually gaining some ground when a series of cold winters hit between 2009 and 2013. After those however the trend has been quite mild generally (in European winters). There was an unusually cold spring in 2021 though.

Actually the book is not really closed on this prediction. Greenland ice melt has not been as rapid, the North Atlantic has not changed very much if at all, and so the postulated cause and effect was either wrong or at least too fast. The alternate theory from the mainstream said that this prediction was wrong anyway and it would just keep warming up everywhere. That has been somewhat obscured by natural variability, a quiet Sun and that aforementioned cold spell of winters (which showed up in North America closer to 2014-15 with the polar vortex winters).

Anyway, as some have already commented, most very confident long-range weather forecasts turn out to be wrong because we don’t really have the full knowledge needed to make such predictions, as we do with astronomical events like eclipses.

There is probably nothing unsound about the idea of a slowly warming earth for a number of different reasons, it was probably going to be the case anyway since we are moving further into the inter-glacial, even if astronomical forcing factors are weakly supporting cooling, that won’t overcome the inertia of the warming atmosphere of the post-glacial until there’s a stronger turn of the forcing in a few thousand years. And the human factor is not imaginary, I consider it over-hyped but we are making small differences.

It’s all very complex which makes forecasting a mug’s game, until we better understand all the complexity, the forecasts are bound to overemphasize one factor and underemphasize a bunch of other factors some of which may not even be known to science at all at this point in time.

Pristine Alaskan Glacier Turns Into Tropical Wasteland

(Frosty Cove, Alaska) Few places on Earth have suffered the ravages of global warming more than Alaska. While recent news reports have highlighted accounts of the native Inuits' snowmobiles falling through the ice, threatening their traditional way of life, there are isolated parts of Alaska have been completely transformed by global warming. Possibly the most frightening example of this climate catastrophe that continues to unfold before the eyes of humanity is the case of Frosty Cove, Alaska. Once dominated by a pristine ice field, with a slowly advancing glacier dumping its frigid cargo into the sea, the Cove's original beauty has been forever lost.

Totally devoid of the ice and magnificent rock outcropping that once adorned the lanscape, Frosty Cove has become the poster child for the ravaging effects of global warming. In the accompanying pair of photographs, taken only twenty years apart, the environmental degradation is immediately obvious. Types of vegetation totally foreign to Alaska have invaded the region, upsetting the delicate ecological balance that once existed. Clouds of mosquitos, once so abundant in the cool moist climate of Alaska, have all but disappeared.

Note that my posts of false predictions (and parody of them) does not mean I disallow that Global Warming can be happening, but that "experts" (a broadly defined breed whose ranks seem to have grown exponentially with Covid) are too often wrong or misleading and alarmist. And that the benefits of Warming are greatly minimized, while what is sure is that Divine judgment will come, and which experts scoff at.

With Europe on the brink of freezing in the dark this winter, many will have no time to worry about global warming. La Niña conditions will bring cold winter to the northern US. as well.
