We have a fake tribe along the NJ/NY border (the Ramapoughs) who aren’t recognized by the federal government (I don’t believe they show any real Indian DNA). Most are mulattos with Dutch surnames apparently descended from a hodgepodge of early Dutch settlers and escaped slaves. They have a reputation for poaching and ignoring ATV bans on state land up there, but they also have these weird festivals where they dress up like Indians (full feather bonnets like the Plains Indians) and make up dances, songs and such.

Truly bizarre, like an annual mass LARPing...
