I suppose it’s the military mindset. But I still have a hard time watching Gryder. There’s just something about his demeanor that leaves me cold although he’s supposed to be the expert on DC-3/C-47 airframes.
Unfortunately, time, age, and disposable income only allows me the ability to fly via YouTube. Miss the days of just flying somewhere for breakfast on a Saturday morning.
It is said your personality gets more polarized with age, I think DG is a good example of this. In the linked Youtube, there are some older videos of DG, and he has definitely not mellowed with age.
He reminds me of my twin engine instructor, (my primary was done by a German, WWII vet held prisoner by the Soviets till 1949) and he was not one to sugarcoat anything. Probably why I am still alive today.
As he used to say “he is not out to romance folks, just do business with them”.
