There’s not to many new cars out there you could give me.
They’re overpriced plastic crap run solely by computers with all the navigation and supposed safety feature crap for those incapable of actually focusing on driving... if folks need all that to help them drive I suggest Uber or Lyft because they shouldn’t be on the road.
Wife did buy a 2019 Ford Escape and that has more crap in it than I could imagine. The owners manual is 509 pages. That’ll be the last new anything vehicle wise we buy. It can’t be made to stay running when you stop unless I select Auto Off every damn time I get in the car. Auto lights because apparently I don’t know when it’s dark. It can park itself so I’m told but I said never while I’m in it. Adaptive Cruise Control because I have no idea there’s someone in front of me and it slams on the brakes if there’s someone turning a half mile ahead of me. Let’s not forget rain sensor wipers because I don’t know when it’s raining or how hard it’s raining. The only thing I like about it is it’s good on gas.
My 2008 F250 is what I would call Windows XP compared to the Win 10 or whatever computer crap available now. It doesn’t track me, ask me for things or warn me of anything unless I’m backing up close to something. I could even eliminate the seat belt ringing which is nice. I have side mirrors to let me know what’s there. I turn my own headlights on, high beam manually if needed and I run the wipers when needed on the delay setting I like. I don’t need my seat to vibrate or collision avoidance system flashing lights with a siren and scaring the hell out of me.
Just picked up a project car about 8 weeks ago. 1975 C3 L-82 Corvette. Brought back all kinds of memories and so simple a “caveman” could drive it. Opening the hood I actually an saw an engine and I can work on and fix everything myself. Fun to drive and I get exercise just getting in and out of it. I don’t need a PHD in computer science to operate it and the owners manual is 88 pages.
Guess I digressed a little !!!
Best of luck finding a new anything new. Once China gets the computer chips rolling again and California gets the shipping supply lines figured out you’ll be good. Hopefully you won’t need a car for a few years though.
Did you have a bumper sticker or sign on your car? Are you known around the area for helping kids with autism? May be no there, there.
It is disconcerting that this “chip shortage” has been going on for at least a year now, you’d think it would be better by now.
We allowed the global Marxists to turn off our economy and now just expect it to go back to where it was? Doesn’t work like that. You NEVER shut your economy down.
Everything democrats do relates back to their insanity over global warming.
If you have the wherewithal(big gov./big tech resources)you can not only learn anything about anyone...you can use that information to target/sell anything you want
Soon(assuming the technology isn't already there)the ability to off anyone you want...with the push of a button.
1984/George Orwell...it's a cookbook!
Not only that, but the wiring in new vehicles has been made with plastic covering made out of veggie material (soy, I think) for at least a decade. Critters will eat the stuff right up.
Also when I hit my turn signal, I appreciate the alarm that tells me when a car is in my blind spot.
The backup camera is great too. I can now back into a parking space without even having to turn my head.
Technology is not always a bad thing.
Hybreds and EV’s use far more chips than an pICE.
Rodents will chew on wires insulated with regular PVC like they have been for decades.
“They’re in this snazzy new electric Mustang, surrounded by high technology, and they don’t know to use Google to find their high-tech car charging station. Not very bright. “
Sure they are! …Why, they’re SAVING THE PLANET! - which makes them “better” than the rest of us slobs…
In central Alabama, I rode by a couple of fair sized dealerships recently and noticed that their lots were about 3/4 empty. My first thought was that business was bad and they were liquidating and going out of business.
Then I thought of chip shortages and supply chain problems... Signs of shortages showing up in many different businesses.
Thanks for the account.
Sounds like typical car salesmen antics.
I knew a car salesman some years ago and he told me that cars were priced so that they could take off $1,000 right off the top.
It’s standard tactics so that it sounds like you’re getting a good deal. They expect to do it.
The trick is getting them to take off more.
we took a friend to Toyota. They had some cars and one meeting his requirements. The dealer had added some $5000 to the sticker price. Our friend just walked out, there was no point in staying any longer.
IT is very sad what “our” government is doing to us (and that so many Americans are putting up with it)
I work at a farm equipment factory, we cant complete many units because they cant get things like wheels and castings that they normally get overseas. So the regular parts we make keep piling up.
The dealer we have used (for decades) does have higher prices than other dealers by the thousand dollars that you noted.
They do not negotiate—I know several folks who have walked out of their doors in frustration.
But—that extra thousand dollars gives you discounts on their future repairs—and their repair shop is heads and shoulders above the competition in quality—proven over decades.
Every local market has its little quirks...
They are getting rid of cars, that’s why there is a part shortage for new and used cars.
Make less new cars, send old cars to the salvage yard, get people used to navigating life without them.
Eventually they want to get to a point where the only way you can get around is little autonomous electric buggies, which will be very expensive to use.
They hate cars, they hate beef, too. Those are the top priorities to reduce and eliminate right now.
I had to order one... the ones in stock, all over the place, are being marked up way over sticker..
Got a 2022 for less than a 2021... It’s scheduled to be started tomorrow!!!
My latest work vehicle is the “Escape Pod” and it does very well in snow and ice.
It is designed much better than the exploder.
Thanks Silvie, for being so observant, analytical, and for posting this, it is news we need to know.
You’re surprised? I’ve been hearinh about this for months!
