Trump is a kingmaker now, and can be exactly what the country needs to stop the dramas and clean out the government, while DeSantis runs the country.

Senators make very poor Presidents.

That is a generalization with too small a sample pool over the last 100 years to make with confidence.

Obama
Nixon (but also VP)
Lyndon Johnson (but also VP)
Kennedy
Truman
Harding


Of that list, only Nixon and Harding are Republicans. I am working on the assumption that Democrats make poor presidents in general. After all Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were governors.

True no state of origin clause, but the combination of Article II and Amendment 12 of the Constitution could effectively upset candidates from the same state in a tight election. Bush-Chaney in 2000 would have lost to Gore-Lieberman had Chaney not changed his legal residence from Texas to Wyoming within months of the election. Texas electors would have been prohibited from casting their 32 electoral votes both Texans. Certainly Chaney did not suddenly change to win over the voters in Wyoming.
