Well, during prohibition the gov had pure ethyl alcohol (industrial use) alcohol ‘denatured’ by adding the very dangerous methyl alcohol to it (blindness/death) this was done to convince the public that all bootleg intoxicants were dangerous...
Ethyl alcohol has many industrial and medical uses so it could not simply be banned. (i.e. it was used in the production of diethyl ether for anesthesia)
The boiling point of methyl is very close to ethyl so it was difficult to distill pure ethanol from a mixture.
IMO this practice was as loathsome as giving smallpox infested blankets to the Indians.

Yes it was and it is an evikl I could never forgive Jackson for. I will never forgive these current demons for plqaying murder games to further their agenda in America. LOL, when I was a chemistry major, I sampled some pure ethyl alcohol...quite smooth, and tasted fine in orange juice, but...it was just a scientific experiment involving perhaps three strong drinks...:) All in the interest of science, of course!
