Oklahoma University Thumbs its Nose at Oklahomans — With ‘So Few Repercussions’
James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal ^ | September 1, 2021 | Jonathan Small

“I don’t understand how a state as red as Oklahoma can have such an obsessively woke state university with so few repercussions,” law professor and New York Post columnist Glenn Reynolds recently marveled.

He’s not alone. I don’t understand it, either. Nor do many Oklahoma taxpayers I’ve talked to.

The question is whether OU’s regents will choose to right the ship or whether they will continue to preside over the university’s evisceration.

Woke Biology, Woke Volleyball, Woke Everything

The board of regents recently approved its Fiscal Year 2022 budget—a budget that included a 2.75 percent increase in tuition and fees. Governor Kevin Stitt’s newest appointment to the board, Rick Nagel, opposed the tuition hike. Regent Frank Keating, a former Oklahoma governor who values college affordability (he helped create Western Governors University), didn’t support the increase either.

It’s worth pointing out, again and again, that tuition at the Purdue University main campus is frozen for the 10th year in a row. Thanks to the leadership of president Mitch Daniels, the total cost of attending Purdue is less today than it was in 2012. If Purdue can keep its tuition level, why can’t OU?

One wonders how many of those additional dollars will be used for overtly left-wing student indoctrination. Given the school’s recent trajectory, it’s clearly a substantial amount.

Take the faculty workshop dubbed “Anti-Racist Rhetoric and Pedagogies,” where a workshop leader vowed to “call them out” if students engage in forbidden speech. And what is forbidden speech in her classroom? She doesn’t say, but it is a fair guess that anything this professor dislikes could be banned. Instead of that faculty workshop, the university needs one to teach faculty members that under the Constitution, they cannot silence or threaten students based on the content of their speech.

I admit that I do not understand how these things work, but can a state revoke money or accreditation to universities or public schools in general?

Start hammering these people like they continually hammer the public.

You’re better off flushing you’re money down the toilet than send your child to s communist indoctrination camp aka the American University.
Might be less than ten colleges in the US that aren’t compromised.

The football team will probably drop the name Sooners because the original Sooners were white people who stole land from the Native American Persons. They will probably rename it the Oklahoma University Football Team.

Everything in that article has to do with the state legislature, the people that elect them, and things like tenure for the professors and insane contracts given to the Chancellors and school presidents.

Tuition never goes down but for darned sure we’re going to have a Pre Roman Feminist Poetry Underwater Basket Weaving Department. Or we’re going to make sure the LBGTQPIOJSAS Club is about as well funded as our football team.

The state should just institute “land reform” on non Native American property owners and return the stolen land to Native Americans.

Or—it should shut down the university before it is too late.

....Because the indoctrinated leftist kids are gonna go there when they get the chance.

Really a worse story than told.

I am an Oklahoma transplant; great place to live; moved my primary residence here twenty years ago and have no regrets.

OU is not only drifting left politically but it is doing a really poor job educating students in every area. Becoming a joke as one of the worst public education institutions in America.

The good news is that there is n excellant education institution at Tulsa University a hundred miles away.

There are hundreds of such gods, and if you defy them they will strike you down with pink slips.

***and return the stolen land to Native Americans.***

Who they gonna give it to? Most of the tribes there came from other areas of the US.
The Five Civilized Tribes from the East Coast.
Pawnee, Poncas, Southern Cheyennes and many others from the Northern High Plains.
Delawares, Shawnees and others from the North East US.
Osages from the Arkansas-Missouri area.
Apaches from the South West US.
About the only ones from that area are the nomadic Comanche and Kiowa tribes.

Then later Spain, then Mexico has a claim as might the French.

The only tribes that were there first are the ones at Tierra del Fuego in Argentina.

They came, then were driven out by a more hostile tribe which then were driven out by a even more hostile tribe for the last 20,000 years.

So glad you asked—the leftist state would just seize all the property and hold it in a “land trust”.

Thanks for playing!
