I live in an immaculate home well decorated.   My dear wonderful wife insists on it.   I'm the slob with clutter on my desktop but even the rest of the study looks nice.

It sounds like married couples are fine—it is normally people who live alone who are more likely to get weird without getting feedback.

“Me—Dear, do you really need to keep _that_?”

“The Wife—Well, I will throw it out if you throw out _this_?”

The compromise may be that nothing is tossed, but at least there is a discussion happening.
