WhatsApp is supposed to be encrypted. It also enables video calls when you use the phone app. It is available on desktop with the same account, but the video capability is not there.
It is very popular in Latin America and some of our missionaries employ it in order to avoid surveillance.
Only thing is, it's owned by facebook, so I'm dubious about the security.
