Brandeis U. can’t even research history. “Rule of thumb” was always an expression centered around construction and art, referring to making approximations rather than using measurements.
All reputable research sources say that the wife-beating interpretation is almost certainly false. In addition, if you are using phrasing like “general rule” is that not equally fraught with potential triggering?
After all, generals have been known to oppress their underlings. And rule? Doesn’t that imply someone who has power over others?
They have a basketball team. What are they going to call it when a player heaves the ball towards the basket. Certainly not a “Shot?!?!”
Someone should ask them... so how wide should the stick be?
Why not just cut their tongues out
We are paying these nuts dearly to indoctrinate our kids. The future does not look bright when their indoctrination is complete.
This goes along with the stupid “enslaved laborers” surreptitiously sneaked into more and more texts and exhibit signs at historic sites everywhere.
Can’t say “slave”! That is dehumanizing! Must say something cumbersome like “enslaved laborer”.
I suppose we must rename the word “worker” to the phrase “working person” in all cases. It might be demeaning.
Tell these jackasses to stuff it.
I’ve read more about that and it’s shown to be false, anyway.

We need to examine all the letters of the alphabet.
Eliminate those that ‘trigger’, offend, microagress, etc.
Which ones will prevail in ‘vowels’ vs ‘consonants’?
And, then . . . CAPITAL letters . . . EEK!
Stop being rational....drink the kool-aid and live....er..
A jab!
We doon need no stink’n first amendment.
Next Brandeis will prohibit Jewish students from attending Sabbath services or taking off for Rosh Hashonah/Yom Kippur services.
It’s not the Brandeis I knew in the 60’s.
Brandeis is about as left wing as you’ll see in the US.
Western academia no longer believes in free speech, no longer believes in speech evolving voluntarily. At some point every western culture will get like France, where there are, in law, legal and not legal uses of language.
I agree that Brandeis is to the extreme Left but so is almost every major university from coast to coast. Back when I was an old guy grad student at the University of Alabama the History Department had two super hardcore conservatives; Gary Mills and the often published Forrest McDonald. They were outnumbered decisively back in the ‘90s. But today it is worse with many schools successfully freezing out all conservatives from faculty positions. Auburn, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, and such schools are less Leftist than Brandeis mainly due to the student body and alumni but they are all communist indoctrination centers overall.
