Neils DeGrasse Tyson was giving out some theories on a show the only night with Dennis Miller and brought up the theory scientist are considering the tic tacs are a new form of animal species out of the deepest parts of the ocean or under polar ice.
The funniest thing about our depictions of “aliens” is how much they always look like us. They always have heads, arms and legs, for example.
That is extremely unlikely. They probably look nothing like us. And they are much more likely to send probes than to travel interstellar space “in person” just to look at us and leave. A probe can do that, and do it better with no risk or time wasting for the aliens.

I’m not sure where Dr. Tyson stands on the UFO/UAP issue, but an awful lot of people have staked their public reputations on calling witnesses idiots.

So, to master the light-year distances, a warp drive would be necessary. But if you have a warp drive, could you not also time-travel? My bet is these are archeologists from our distant future, trying to figure out how we screwed it up so badly.

We may indeed. But until we see some type of actual physical evidence, that theory will have to remain under the umbrella of “anecdotal tales”. I’m definitely not an outright skeptic. But you’d think that someone, somewhere, at some time, would have produced SOMETHING. Something that big is logistically impossible to keep buried forever.
Too, we have to be careful to not automatically give 100% credence to the idea that no one has said anything because they were “threatened”. Certainly that does happen. It happens a lot. BUT all too often, it becomes a convenient catchall excuse. Almost as overused as the race card is.
It reminds me in a way of Simon Parkes, who in his podcasts always says he has secret info from various intel sources . . . but he never produces any details because he’s been obliged to sign a Nondisclosure Agreement. So he dangles a bunch of teaser “bombshell” headline, but that’s all it ever turns out to be.
I saw Bigfoot yesterday.
He was also in Washington State scaring folks, down in the Californian Sierras sounding like a samurai and in Florida smelling like a skunk.

As Dr. John Mack used to say, people can be convicted of a crime on the testimony of witnesses. There are thousands and thousands of witnesses (perhaps even millions) as to the abduction experience...and on descriptions of the abductors, they agree.
If you wish to go down the rabbit hole of theories about them, a few ‘experts’ claim they are the bi-products of hybrid humans and other aliens or demons.
Whatever they are, they are clearly not benevolent.
That is exactly right.
And note how in your example, country 1 is more than likely going to hold others accountable for their behavior and reward them according to that behavior. Morality exists to a certain degree.
Country 2 will likely revert to tribalism and genocide in short quick order once society breaks down. No quarter given for anybody.

I see a scenario where the ‘aliens’ lead the governments together to form a One World Gov’t in order to save us from ourselves, supposedly.
Either way, it’s a lie.
Playing devil’s advocate here, just very briefly: The testimony mentioned could very well be legit. Or, it could be a form of mass hysteria, similar to “War of the World” back in 1938.

Post 49. . .agree with most but the “no way” possible for alternative propulsion engines/capabilities that are enabling interstellar spaceflight, I can’t go along with that.
We simply don’t know.
Hundreds of years ago the belief was man could not travel much faster than 30MPH, then we were told exceeding the speed of sound was darned near impossible. Reasonable beliefs at the time.
Now light-speed is a limitation. However, I suggest we don’t know that for certain and for sure. We simply haven’t figured out the entire universe yet. Maybe it is, but unless we explore and investigate wide-ranging options, we will never know.
A UFO is simply, as you say, something we have not identified.
