Sen. Joe Manchin on Friday said that he did not support the D.C. statehood bill, a blow to advocates pushing to make it the 51st state after the legislation passed the House last week.
"If Congress wants to make D.C. a state, it should propose a constitutional amendment ... and let the people of America vote," the West Virginia Democrat told Hoppy Kercheval of West Virginia's MetroNews in a radio interview.

Some state should write a simple 4-line text to pass as a bill, and just say non-federal property of DC returns to either Maryland, or if the residents voted for Virginia...let them have that state. Then snowball the effect across the rest of the states.
I wouldn’t even see a problem taking the non-federal property and giving it over to California...making it a county.
The big problem with DC Statehood is that it give a single State the power to legislate over the remaining 50 States. Hell if that’s what the left wants, let just move that power to Rhode Island and give DC back to the State of Virginia and call it even.
DC should become a city in Virginia... nothing more - nothing less...
