There is an interesting back story associated with the making of this movie and its financing. Studio insisted that it would not be made, believing that The Quiet Man would do poorly at the box office unless another movie was made by John Ford and Wayne, which they accomplished. The required movie was not a success.

The movie was shot on a shoestring with small expectation of box office success and even less that it would turn into a perfect gem. Meanwhile, director John Ford assembled what amounted to a kind of ensemble company who were not unaccustomed to lifting a glass after hours.

There is a documentary concerning the making of the movie, if I recall correctly it was hosted by Miss O'Hara herself.

I believe the "required" movie was Rio Grande - the 3rd member of the Ford/Wayne Cavalry Trilogy.
