If the shooter couldn't see the other people in the hallway then he probably couldn't see the backpack either. But if he could see it, what threat could the backpack be unless he thought she might be like a Muslim Suicide Gal. And the idea that the security folks didn't have at least several security cameras focused on that area is absurd.
