Cedric Richmond, a senior adviser to President Biden, says the administration is “going to start acting now” on reparations for African-Americans.
In an interview with Axios on HBO, Richmond reminded viewers that Biden continues to support House Resolution 40, a piece of legislation resubmitted last year by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) which would create a “reparations commission.”
...
He added, “We have to start breaking down systemic racism and barriers that have held people of color back, and especially African-Americans who were enslaved.”
“We’re going to start acting now,” Richmond said.

Ok, reparations now. Assuming it is a worthy cause, and it isn’t since there are no living slaves left to pay, How many trillions of dollars will that cost?
We can’t seem to spend money fast enough on a federal level. Either we will have a massive tax hike to pay for it or we will print more money like we have been doing.
Hyperinflation is inevitable.
If this country is so evil then I support a program that would give a one way ticket to anyone of any race to anywhere in the world upon surrendering the person’s US citizenship and passport.
I will go further.
After the civil war there were very many dirt poor and destitute people, both white and black. Out of these from both demographic only a few escaped poverty to become rich and those that did generally did so because they changed what they were doing, or had always seen poor white farmers doing before the end of slavery.
Opposition in society far greater than we see now (or even saw mid last century) did not stop those few blacks anymore that supposedly being privileged in society enabled the majority of poor white folk to escape poverty.
All anyone had to do to remain poor was just keep doing what they’d been doing.
That remains true today even when black people, poor or not, face so little racism that they’ve got time to feel oppressed by inanimate objects and name given to stuff.
To be blunt, one generation is always enough when people change what they’ve been doing in a good way.
Consider Botswana in Africa. At gaining independence it was the poorest and least educated backwater in all of Africa, with less than a handful who had what was then considered a high school education. With that the people of Botswana didn’t have natural resources either. They had bupkiss.
But within a few decades because their people and leaders respected and admired men like Washington rather than Robespierre or Lenin, their economy and other indicators shot up dramatically. As countries with seemingly everything in their favor, educated people and even oil, faltered while their presidents for life emulated Lenin little Botswana essentially came to be second only to South Africa in subsaharan Africa.
The fault is frequently not in the stars of the persistent poor but in themselves as they generationally keep on doing variations on a theme ... race doesn’t matter.
But you will have difficulty keeping a successful man down if they choose to not see all that is against them as determining their fate.
We can't do anything to help anyone who was a slave in the US because they are all dead. Meanwhile there are millions of people who are still held in slavery today and no one is making any effort to help them. Maybe because most of them are in Muslim countries.
Now for the “funny” part of this. Under no plan by the pro reparations side does one dollar go directly to a black person. It would all be administered by Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, or people equally as nauseating. Even under the best case scenario from their side it’s all a scam for race pimps to siphon off money directly to themselves. The bigger the bag of money, the more for them.
And do 300,000 dead Union Civil War soldiers count in the equation?
I’m African-American, if you believe Africa is the Cradle of Humankind. Where do I sign up?
Yeah, you might want to add 3 zeroes to that.
I am fully in favor of reparations...to be paid by those who actually owned slaves to those who actually were slaves. Otherwise, not so much.
Not one person in my family was in this country prior to the 1890s, with most coming between 1910 and 1925. Once here they were, themselves, subjected to discrimination (though not as bad as blacks have been, to be sure). This includes my mother, who was told point blank in the late 1950s not to apply to certain schools because they simply did not admit Jews - she is STILL ticked off about that. My kids were born about 40 years after the Civil Rights Act was passed. Why would my mother, I and my wife, and my kids have to pay anything - we had NOTHING to do with slavery or Jim Crow.
Why would Barack Obama get anything? His mother’s family was involved in the slave trade, his father’s family stayed in Africa, and his “suffering” includes being elected POTUS twice and having a net worth of over $50 million, and growing. How about Oprah, net worth of over $1 billion? How about recent immigrants from Africa and the Caribbean who are black - and never experienced slavery or Jim Crow? How about my (lily white) friend who is, technically, an African American (he was born in South Africa, came here and later became a citizen)?
This is SO incredibly crazy and unworkable that I hope that it will lead to a huge backlash against Biden and the D’s. Either that, or if it goes through, perhaps the recipients will then be denied welfare benefits of any type, owing to the wrong of slavery having been rectified with reparations (yeah, I know, there’s a greater chance of a flock of flying pigs blotting out the noonday sun than this, but I can dream, can’t I?).
I will identify as a black person. Were’s my money?
Obviously, step #1 should be $50 cash and free immediate transportation back to their country of ancestral origin...
I want reparations for the damage Polish jokes have done to the other half of my ancestry.
I want a damn thank you note from the NAACP for what my Irish great grandfather did for them in the civil war.
I learned a lot from your post.
True you can’t keep a free person down long if they are given any chance and are motivated to improve. Opposite of Marxist-Leninist “poor me” and “knock this chip off my shoulder” attitude.
