I've had singles about 25 years ago. Yes, it was very painful. My doctor wanted me to take the Shingrix vaccine last fall. As soon as the needle cleared my skin, I began to feel heat in my upper lip. Then the lining of my nose. Then my throat started to close up. I croaked out, "Benedryl" to the pharmacist (it was a local CVS) and the pharmacist handed me a Benedryl and some water. About 20 minutes later, I was OK, thank G-d. Between pain and anaphylactic shock, I'll take pain. This is why I do not intend to take any COVID vaccines.
I had shingles about 25 years ago. I’ve been taking L-Lysine 1000 mg every day and since Covid I take zinc supplements and elderberry.
Not an easy choice, and your doc may tell you not to, but you may want to re-think that.
Allergies easily countered with a few meds vs possible major pain for at least 6 weeks up to endless (post-herpetic nerve pain).
I’m getting the shot when things are clearer.
