A few years ago, before my first visit to France,I had a dentist who was French. We'd talk about France and I told him once that my parents had been there and didn't like the people at all. Hearing that he asked "did they travel outside of Paris?" and I said "I don't think so".

He smiled and said "Ah,there's the problem.Even we Frenchmen hate Parisians!"

When I visited Paris I found the people very friendly. I tried to speak a little French so that may have helped. I always said please and thank you in French.

They seemed to appreciate an American would try to learn the language....much as I have respect for people who try to learn American English.
