His asst. has us/me set in a chair for supposedly a few more questions and time for entries into my electronic e record.
Then, the doctor comes into the small exam room does some stethoscope things and then asks me to sit on the exam table.
So you have to stand up, negotiate around 2 people, locate the exam table and sit on it. After you find and sit on the exam table, the asst. leaves the exam room.
During this time, the doctor is watching me like a lion watches a possible meal. Actually, he is watching how an 82 year old guy listens/responds, negotiates space, objects and people in tight quarters.
This spatial observance is done in about 1-2 minutes or less.
Besides his spatial observances, he is poking and prodding me as that part of the exam.
After I’m seated, he checks my hands/wrists for tremors and then moves on to my own printout of my problems and questions.
He is constantly moving/using his stethoscope and listening to it.
He checks his computer for lab tests, rxed drugs and any consults from specialists since the last visit.
In five minutes or less, I have had a thorough exam.
“He knows it.”
If you are really in cognitive decline, you don’t know it. Everyone else knows it, but he thinks he is fine.
This will be a big problem for the Democrats, since he is not going to give up office voluntarily. It will look ugly, and probably ruin their chances in 2022.

This is true to a point. My mom had vascular dementia. There would be times when she would struggle for what she was trying to say, point to her head with her finger, and say, “Oh, I don’t know what’s wrong with me! Sometimes my brain just gets so messed up!”
Those would be the times when we would seem glimpses of our “real” mama. Most of the time those last few years we only got to see her disease wreaking havoc on her.
Miss that sweetest lady. I’m so honored that I was able to care for her part-time for the last couple of years. I have very special memories of her, even in her decline.
I think that is sometimes true. But, it’s not uncommon for people in the very early stages of dementia to understand that something isn’t right, which often leads them to seek out professional help, help that then identifies their condition.
Biden is particularly unusual insomuch that his decline is available for viewing on video. He’s surely seen video of himself searching for words he shouldn’t be searching for and fumbling over names (proper names are often the first that go) that he shouldn’t fumble, like names of immediate family members.
People with dementia are also predisposed to fits of brief anger. Why are they angry? They realize their mind is failing them. The extent of that realization is what varies in different patients. I would be really surprised if he doesn’t have some understanding of what’s happening to him.
I remember sitting in the back seat of my dad’s car with his grandma sitting next to him crying. I asked her what was wrong and she said: I know I’m losing my mind. She was. A year later, she didn’t even know who I was anymore.
