Whatcha basing it on? :)
I have looked up the land mass figure in my world atlas by brittanica.
8 bill x 500 sq. Ft = 4 x 10^12...sq. ft.
An acre is about 44,000 sq feet
Divide 4 x 10^12 sq ft by 44,000 sq feet /acre and that is about 91,000,000 acres.
A square mile is 640 acres...
Divide 91,000,000 by 640 = 140, 000 square miles
Cali = 164,000 sq mile,
Oregon= 100,000 sq miles
Washington state = 71,000 sq miles
Total about= 334,000 square miles.
Discount rivers and mountains...well you get the picture...but this is end to end...double each persons space and that 1000 sq ft per person = 280,000 square miles. Now stretch it out for roads..infrastructure, other necessary societal functions, like sitcoms, and celebrities and my guess is that 1/2 of u.s. would be more than enough.
Total land mass area of 50 states is about 3.8 million sq. Miles...so we got lots of room..
Now if we could build two story buildings...and genetically engineered everyone to be 1/2 size...that would cut need of land by factor of 4!!!. Just kidding bout the shrinking job....I am sure this would not work...due to the evil in mankind
..plus the possibility that a giant asteroid could destroy the population if it hits the right place...not to mention floods...earthquakes, fires...wars...
I was being facetious.(as if I could calculate those odds)...you had mentioned that our genome survival chance would double if we got to Mars...I thought it was strange that our chances of survival
was actually twice!(exactly!) I really should have written; “twice?”....where did you get that number?
