You can bet your last dollar that if throngs of foreign persons were to take the jobs of politicians by working for a 1/3 of the wage the border would be a fortress. My building trades are decimated and in my area mexicans come out of the woodwork and literally swarm on new homes and the like. Try dealing with private homeowners price wise when they shop illegal outfits and people that can always go back to their homeland after fleecing our republic. But why would a cushy state/fed agency jeopardize their guarenteed paycheck by solving the problem they were created for?...23-32 million state / federal employees ...THAT is the biggest problem.

The thing I loved the most about Trump is the jujitsu he performed on these petty bureaucrats. In announcing that the Agriculture Department was moving to Kansas City (near the center of the constituency they were supposed to serve), about half the room stood and turned their backs on him.

The enemedia painted it as a big problem. I, and most Americans with a brain saw it as an opportunity to downsize just one massive department which has grown too big for its britches. And the back-turners made selecting who would be downsized that much easier.

The same thing needs to happen with every damned department in DC with the possible exceptions of the State Department and the Pentagon. The pandemic showed that about one third of the workforce can do their work remotely. For the employees of Fedzilla in DC, I bet it is closer to 90%.

Most of the city should be transformed into a National Park of historical buildings and historical museums to serve tourists. Even congress could meet remotely with a big screen for tourists to watch.

As an added bonus, many of the K Street hogs at the trough would leave town. It is such a good idea, I think I might just share it with my congress critter.
