Indeed! Folds up nicely, too.

8 inch barrel? Yeah, not for what I’m looking. I like guns but I’m not that familiar with the purpose of an 8 inch barrel for a gun like that. I’d probably use a handgun for home defense or shotgun. I’d use the PTR-91 for much longer range targets.

I would remove the Ruger SAs (10/22 and Mini 14/30).

The AR10, M1A and M1 Garand belong on this list.

...but I would not choose 308 cal projectile for most home defense scenarios due to over-penetration.

They call it a PDW....personal defense weapon. Legally, it is a handgun.

My son and I each bought ATI Omni Hybrid 5.56/.223 Carbines a few years ago. They were pretty cheap back then but now list for $675 if you can even find them.

They have both fired flawlessly and for a less expensive AR type rifle. I’m impressed. Being a polymer design the most amazing thing about it is its weight. A little over 5 pounds. I could carry it in my hands all day long.

Interesting. I’d love to shoot one just to checkout the recoil.

Good question, that’d be a real interesting test to make.

They have similar diets — small rodents, lizards , snakes. I suppose the difference is that roadrunners eat insects. They might try for a larger mammal like a pet cat.

My current theory is that this is why Trout tastes so good. They eat small prey. Insects.

Sharks and Sturgeon focus on larger prey, usually something that’s already bleeding. They’re the vultures of the fish world.

We’re headed towards a new form of elitism. Folks like you will be “allowed” to own firearms while city dwellers are not.

How long until folks like you realize that you’re not employing a ‘right’ but basically a ‘privelege’?

Poor writing. Sorry.

It is COYOTES that might try for a larger animal like a pet cat, not roadrunners.

No, no, no, no.

The 5 Best Semi-automatic rifles for home defense:

1) 12 gauge semi automatic shotgun with rifled slug barrel (in either detachable magazine or extended tube magazine) Truly said that you can't buy a street sweeper anymore.

2) Any semi automatic rifle in 7.62x39, SKS, MAK-47, AR in 7.62x39, Ruger Mini-30

3) AR-15 clone in any caliber

4) Any semi automatic rifle in a “pistol” caliber .44 Rem Mag (old Ruger semi), M1 Carbine, bunches in 9mm from different vendors. Yes there are even AR-15 versions in pistol caliber and there are Glock conversions or build kits for rifles.

5) A Ruger 10/22. But why limit yourself to a 10 round magazine, when Ruger and many others make much larger magazines.

Yes there are many fine semi auto battle rifles in .308, 30-06, 7.62 Russian rimmed, .50 BMG and other similar powerful calibers, but they are more for farm or urban warfare defense, not home defense.

Great little rifles. We have two. But from bitter experience I can tell you do NOT buy anything but factory Ruger magazines of any capacity. The Ruger 25 round mags run flawlessly in our guns. None of the others I bought did.

If you consider the following list, what would be your top 3 options. You’ve made me uncomfortable in primary 5.56 weapon selection:

1. Ruger: AR-556
2. American Tactical Imports : AR-15
3. Bravo Company: Mod 0, Mod 2, Recce 14/16
4. Wilson Combat: AR-15
5. Daniel Defense: DDM4 V7
6. LaRue: PredatAR
7. Rock River Arms: LAR-15 Entry Tactical
8. Sig Sauer: M400
9. Smith & Wesson: M&P15 Sport II
10.Springfield Armory: Saint Victor 556

The Ruger AR556 seems like an ok rifle. Seen a couple come through a couple classes, but I don’t know the round counts, but none of them up and died.

My roommate has the M&P sport II and I’ve yet to see it even hiccup. It’s the only one I’ve actually fired myself, but I know an instructor who likes them very much, and he’s a good, trustworthy guy I’ve known for quite a while with solid experience.

I’m not much of an AR guy, but danny defense has done some wicked reliable ARs. I know of one danny defense build with a guy from west Louisiana with something like 60,000 rounds through it.

Please bear in mind that I have only witnessed 2 of the aforementioned rifles in courses, and this is specific as I can get on those platforms.

I specialize in AK builds myself personally. I’m a .30 type of guy and also a builder
