I talked to a dedicated green in Australia. He was intellegent and well read.
He said we are making tremendous progress in batteries, and we will have all the cheap and energy dense batteries we need very shortly... Just around the corner, so to speak.
And where will the energy needed to extract and transport the chemicals necessary to make the batteries come from?
It’s like Man telling God he can make Man from dirt. Well then, how do you make dirt?
Did you mention to him that neighbourhood nuclear nuclear has also been promised as being just ten years way, starting fifty years ago?
Actually, he is right..... new very dense power batteries utilizing new materials other than Lithium are being developed not just proffered.....
Unfortunately, new technology, especially those that involve radical new propositions don’t happen overnight.....
What is tremendously lacking, is the electrical generation to support the new technology. Not to mention distribution for charging.....
It will come but will take time......
And it won’t be solar or wind......
I think it’s in line right behind achieving break even in fusion power generation. Fusion has been “right around the corner” for over 40 years now.
Just like fusion power?
We are far from cheap battery technology.
Even with cheap batteries, we have to generate the electricity needed to power the batteries.
All this is on the misguided idea that carbon is a pollutant that has negative effects. An outright lie.
Even if true, it isn’t, a warmer climate would be a boon to humanity as well as much of nature. Buy a globe. Look at the land masses. Much of it is in Canada & Siberia. Imagine how much arable land is trapped under all that ice.
10,000 years ago the home I live in would have been under 2 miles of ice. 2 miles! A warmer climate is a more livable climate!
He sounds like the media during 0bama’s term, where the economy was “about to take off”. Soon, real soon now, any day...
