We are moving in the spring from St.Paul. I have been planning the move for years, to happen after I retire; now I have.
Looking primarily at Kentucky and Tennessee, Bowling Green and Knoxville areas the most likely. Wife wants a not so small town, I want a not so big. I reserved moving equipment almost a year ago with destination unknown.
We’re going to take another look around in a few weeks and make a decision. Freeper suggestions are welcome.
Learn about taxes before you go and keep in mind that kentucky voted in liberal democrat as governor. We moved to tennessee from Pennsylvania a couple years ago. Our overall tax burden dropped by about 80%. Property tax declined the most dropping from 3600 per year to 600 per year. Sales tax is higher here but not by much. When combined with fuel tax and utility costs we reduced our cost of living substantially.
Signal Mtn, TN.
In TN I would suggest Loudon County.
Moved back home to KY when hubby retired, and started consulting. I’m partial to Louisville but that’s where we grew up. The only reason was to be near my elderly mother. Bowling Green is a college town, and Lexington and Louisville are liberal. Tennessee has no income tax, but a higher sales tax. We have considered that. Daughter is in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. They have considered moving out of MI, but her husband would have to take another job within the company. People here are moving east out of the county.
We will be moving from the western burbs to Tennessee or SC. I need to be near a major airport for work so Nashville and York County, SC near Charlotte are our preferences. Lots of MN folks I know getting serious about getting out.
