I agree with your sentiment. This build-up is far too big, too early, and too well organized as just a ‘better safe than sorry’ security operation for the inauguration.

They sure seem to be loading up for that... but...
Thing is, if the military was really gonna get it on with a coup and all that, the only thing the NG troops would do is be a source of casualties. The army could simply MLRS, Howitzer, or HIMAARS the area from 25 miles away until you get hamburger and rubble... the Air Force would not even work up a sweat clearing the place of anything living... and the Navy would have their choice of air, artillery, and even a few Marines if you wanted to be thorough after you pasted DC with a few thousand tons of munitions.
If the powers that be are thinking that the 25,000 NG troops would protect them in the event of a military mutiny, than it is as human shields — IOW, “those brutes may want to string us up, but the won’t kill 25,000 of their fellow brutes to do it...”

Pieces coming together. IMHO, media is spinning hard, trying desperately to make it look like all preps, deputizations, etc. are for BiteOne's protection. My belief is that the preps are for an entirely different purpose. We'll know soon one way or the other.

I believe it makes perfect sense. They are moving to crush President Trump’s reputation, make a statement toward conservatives and give the impression conservatives are dangerous.
It’s all about demonizing and marginalizing the conservative movement now so in 2022/2024 they can use this to kill off conservative candidate chances of election victory.
