Just like any other war, keep moving to stay ahead of the enemy.
Some day, people will set up physical servers in their basements...again.
So what happens when the telecom provider refuses to sell you bandwidth? When the DNS delists you? You gonna “roll your own” fiber on public utility poles?
Didn’t DNS delisting happen to a not-so-savory website awhile back? Oh but they were notzees, they deserved it.
What we are seeing is a cloud purge and not an internet purge. Non techies won’t/don’t get that.
There is talk of sites buying space in the dark web.
I’ve heard it’s a horrible place but if that’s the ONLY place you can still speak freely, so be it.
Yep it is
Yeah, been there done that too. Who else cut their teeth doing multi-phone line dial-up BBS' with EchoLink back in the mid 1980's before the Internet became a household name?
UseNet anyone?
That is not happening (yet). This a cloud a purge. F the cloud. Nothing to see here move along.
BTW Free Republic is perfect example of a private owned/maintained POLITICAL website.
What we're seeing is fascism and a company named Twitter with a man named Jack Dorsey doing Communist China's bidding.
That man should be hung for treason.
This is also why they are trying to get rid of cash. In a cashless society if the government or a consortium of corporate financial institutions can cut you off and then you can neither buy or sell, rendering Americas into total slaves.
Um, it is a private cloud network. Simple answer is have your own hardware and IT staff like the good old days. This way you also protect your customers from “shenanigans”...
It’s too bad Elon Musk’s Starlink network is only partially up. Fully deployed for the US, he could go right around all these characters. Probably could triple his wealth in the process.
...and to stop communication, especially by the President.
You just described Parler, did you know that?
What's happening to Parler can just as easily happen to Free Republic should its Hosting Provider go all SJW and decide to boot it off.
When FR's payment processors decide they don't like the things that are said on here and refuse to process donations to keep FR on the air, then what?
There WILL BE a logical progression of events to try and keep Parler from coming back up after Sunday. The battle will move from the major cloud hosting providers to the mid-tier, then the low-end with Parler getting chased from one provider to another.
Then the banks and payment processors will step in and refuse to process payments or allow Parler's owners to "bank" anywhere. That means they cannot do business, move cash, acquire products & services, etc..
Tech Tyranny is just the beginning.
Not the same.
The way I understand Free Republic is that Jim and John, God bles them, maintain their own hardware platform.
LOL
I had Usenet enemies.
I also had a “shotgun” modem setup that gave me a massive 56k download speed.
/still despises the sound of the “handshake”
I wonder what my Win2000K Pro software is worth, now?
You clearly don't know how this all works. You can have your own hardware, IT Staff and Data Center but what good are they when you cannot get a major telco to provide a pipeline to an Internet Provider, or no internet provider will allow you to connect to their point of presence?
You're dead in the water. No connectivity = no Internet.
Not even a decade ago if you mentioned any of these things here you were called a kook and paranoid. People grow complacent. Normalcy bias kills.
Oh this could never happen here. Yet here we are.
Also, government entitlements like Medicare. Will they ask your political affiliation? Religion? Get the vaccine? How many miles do you drive? Etc.
See where this goes? It goes to surviving, or not.
If you understand the net works, it will not matter who owns what, ever.
