There are other ways to get apps other than Google Play and Apple App store. For example. Earthlink who writes the Weatherbug app has a proprietary version for weather stations and you can just download it from a shared drive then install it.

Only on Google. APKs are easy to download and install. On Apple, nope. Need to jailbreak your phone, and that could render it inoperative.
