An AR-10 in .308, ready to rock and roll is a lot heavier in my experience than a .223 AR-15.

I would not want to carry a big ole AR-10 on a ruck.

The 7.62 ammo loaded into 20 round magazines is the real weight issue. The rifle does not need to be more that a pound or two heavier. Mine is about 8.5# empty with iron sights.
