This is the lost city of Meroë in Sudan, with beautifully maintained pyramids as impressive as their more famous counterparts in Egypt. However, unlike the famed pyramids of Giza, the Sudanese site is largely deserted.
The pyramids at Meroë, some 125 miles north of Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, are rarely visited despite being a Unesco World Heritage site.
Sanctions against the government of longtime President Omar al-Bashir over Sudan’s long-running internal conflicts limit its access to foreign aid and donations, while also hampering tourism.

They were built long after the pyramids of Egypt.
How they “rival” the pyramids of Egypt the article does not explain.
They don’t. Happy New Year.
“...as impressive as their more famous counterparts in Egypt..”
No they are not. Not even remotely.
These are much smaller, look mud-bricked, and came much later than the originals.
BUT...an interesting read and thanks for posting.
Much like the West is mimicked today in all things, likewise were the Egyptians, the Greeks, and later the Romans in their days.
More play to the historical revisionists that claim Western Civ did nothing other than appropriate culture/tech from non-Western antecedents.
Again, thanks for posting.
You can count on media to always be pimping anything Negroes have done.
Can someone post the globe distribution IQ map?
Rival the pyramids of Egypt? Are you serious? They’re a hell of a lot smaller.
The pyramids of Sudan do not rival those of Egypt. The people of Sudan probably had better things to do than create artificial mountains to honor dead kings, not that they were incapable of doing so. I personally think that the pyramids were a monumental waste of effort when they could have built roads, fortresses or canals but the Egyptian pyramids are man-made marvels.
“Sanctions against the government of longtime President Omar al-Bashir over Sudan’s long-running internal conflicts...”
I’m going to go out on a limb and posit that tourists are discouraged not by the sanctions, but by the persistence of violent conflict and oppressive government. It’s not Chicago, but there’s still a reasonable chance of meeting a violent end in an unlovely place.
I remember March of 1966 when the US news papers were filled with articles about sunken cities found off the coast of Peru and Chile.
Then the story died. Nothing since.
The site sucks, always lacking in depth and, in particular, high quality imagery.
Yes the site is one that is “science lite”.
I doubt much of what they “report” is original, just a lite version of a report published elsewhere.
They must be invisible pyramids as there was no photos at the site. I do not count that thumbnail they have in upper left.
...while them Greek homos wuz livin’ in caves.
It’s basically what the Nazis did, fake archaeological discoveries that seemed to confirm their warped racial theories.
It’s no lie,
You can keep the edge of a razor as sharp as an eagle’s eye
You can grow a hedge that is vertically straight over ten feet high
All you really need is a pyramid and just a little luck
