Newer HP laptops are a pain to get into. It’s a clamshell design that you literally have to pry apart. A regular screwdriver is a bad idea. I’ve got one of those iFixit toolkits with a set of fiberglass prying tools for just that sort of thing. Still a PITA to take one apart to access memory an drives.

Yup, I thought it was just HP though (I usually buy Asus). I've opened it up twice.. once to replace the SSD, which I learned AFTER I bought a replacement that it was an M2 (tint card SSD), and not the "normal" sized SSD (which is now an external 2TB).
Also upped the RAM from 8G to 32G..
