Tough sh!t. I stand by what I said. Two generations of my family fought these bastards in two world wars. I really don't give a damn about the Krauts. They've never really liked us. I believe in what Winston Churchill said of them "The Hun is either at your feet or at your throat''.
Fair enough. My Grandfather flew B-17s during the Second World War, and then his son married a German immigrant. So as you might expect, it's always been a complicated story in my family.
A friend of mine who took an RPG in the Korengal Valley told me that the Germans were by far the best of the international contingent, and that he always appreciated working with them. So it's a topic that, admittedly, gets under my skin.
I appreciate you taking the time to reply, and I respect your opinion, even though I disagree with it. And I guess it's true that Churchill has a quote for everything.
Respect to your grandfather. An uncle of mine nearly had his head blown off by 88mm shrapnel in the Ardennes in 1945.
Thank you for a reasoned and respectful reply.
My wife’s grandfather emmigrated from Germany and received his citizenship by joining the army and fighting in the Spanish American War. He never allowed German to be spoken in the household because he was proud to be an American. 20 years later his families house was burned down and they were run out of town by ignorant idiots like jmacusa in the runup to WWI. The entire family including my wife’s mother had nothing and nearly starved. My wife’s father served in the US Army for 28 years. He was a highly decorated soldier who fought in WWII and Korea and was stateside during Vietnam. He was also of German descent.
