I have torn feelings about this. But first, let's correct some mistaken ideas that have popped up in the thread.

First, Caesar didn't destroy the Roman Republic. It had been dead for at least the most of the last century. Rome had it's upper class ruling. They were just like our useless ruling class. The person who really ended the republic was Caesar's nephew Octavius. In one sense he actually rebuilt the charade of the senate, just calling himself the “first citizen” of the state. But the Senate was dying slowly has having power and would really be one man rule.

We have developed the idea of an Imperial Presidency because the Congress could not act as the will of the people. Instead, they are more concerned about ingratiating themselves and staying in office. Over the last 50 years they have voted to cede more powers to the President. The same powers that are now potentially in President Trump's hands will be in the hands of a President Bitme.

The President's actions will undoubtedly result in civil war. It will be bloody. It will split families. It will cause hunger and disease. It will also result in our foreign adversaries taking advantage of our situation. This has happened before.

If Trump wins in the courts the President will certainly have to resort to these things to put down up rebellion. But remember what comes with that. There will be suspension of writ of habeus corpus. There will be incarceration without jury trial. There will be martial law. These are things that President Lincoln did during the War between the States. Many on here hate Lincoln for that. Will you cheer Trump for doing the same things that Lincoln did?

Remember, it is easy to open the bottle and let the genie out. It is another thing to get him back in. This pathway may have to be taken (i.e. leftist attempt at overthrow if Trump is vindicated in the courts) but we need to think long and hard before advocating for a suspension of the Constitution, no matter how righteous the cause we espouse.

If you think I am torn in this, you are right. I fear from my country, not matter what the course in 2021.

Good points, I also have troubled feelings on this matter. I have always felt that our founding fathers had gotten it right, a ship that will always right itself, but as I get older I see problems emanating from Congress a sort of soft corruption that allowed socialism to fester in our inner cities. At this stage it really looks like an infestation.
I think the quicker we address it the better we will be. If we don’t it would be far uglier and the passage long and dark.
My feelings is to isolate the areas of corruption, inner cities that violate federal law and act as socialist isolation and breeding chambers. The President could do this by utilizing the insurrection act and isolate them and control them the same way that the North governed the South- with military governors.
