Since 1950, the winners in these years had more than 410 electoral votes:
Eisenhower in 1952 and 1956
LBJ in 1964
Nixon in 1972
Reagan in 1980 and 1984
Bush I in 1988
1988 was the most recent time it happened. Until the 1880s the total number of electoral votes was less than 410. FDR in 1936 and Nixon in 1972 are the only two Presidents to get over 500 electoral votes.

I’d forgotten that Bush I had carried that many, or the Reagan took out an incumbent that strongly. He was a Man,
and Bush did well to be in his shadow. Too bad he didn’t stay there.

In 1984 Republican Ronald Reagan won 525 electoral votes against Democrat Walter Mondale, who got only 13 electoral votes.
