The standing army is minuscule compared to a population of 330 million

The Army of the Tennessee was minuscule compared to the populations of Georgia and South Carolina.

So what?

The Provisional Army of the Confederate States P.A.C.S., at is largest in 1864, was over 1 million. Not including the C.S.N. The population of the South was around 10 million. 1/10. So ramped up to 2020, an equivalent army that is 1/10 the size of 300 million would be 30 million!!!!
