I’m not disputing this but have to ask how wearing a mask would case bacterial pneumonia? And what sort of masks did they have in those days?

Wish I could see the rest of the article because maybe it would explain this.

They wore cloth masks, probably cotton, much like many masks today. And failure to launder the masks frequently is the likely reason for bacterial build up leading in some instances to bacterial pneumonia.
