I just want to say, if not for Americans and Europeans, all the other peoples of the world would still be cooking and heating their huts with fire. Columbuss journey was a result of the reawakening of Western culture And inquiry that has continued up until the Present - but its continuation is in question with identity politics.

Excellent article! I also recommend a book, The Light and the Glory (Gods Plan for America) by Peter John Marshall and David Miguel (?). It offers a more in depth look at Columbus spiritual beliefs. (Yes, he was the son of Peter Marshall, who was the chaplain of the US Congress, and Catherine Marshall, who was the author of Christy and books about her husband, A Man Called Peter.)
We, who are of Italian descent, have much to proud of in Italian history...and, indeed, much of which to be ashamed.
But, in the USA, the respect we had for Columbus was a source of pride here. Well, they couldn’t have that!
Honoring the Genovese, sort of made up for some of the Italian lynchings here, but I think Chris will rise again, and become the man to be honored.
Who else had the cajones to sail thinking he would fall off the earth if he were wrong?
