And the cops have been on to it for decades.

A guy did that in front of my house about 25 years ago. I saw him get into another vehicle. When the cops came, the cop actually told me these early morning crashes often get called in as stolen, even though the owner caused it. Not five minutes later he got a call that the car was reported stolen.

The funny part is that the car I saw the guy climb into drove by going the other way a short time after that. One of the cop cars chased it down and about a half hour later it came back with the guy I had seen sitting in the back seat.

It was his car. :)
