Can anything change Americans’ minds about Donald Trump? [barf alert]

On August 27, 2019, President Donald Trump held a 41.3 percent approval rating and a 54.2 percent disapproval rating, according to FiveThirtyEight’s poll tracker. During the 365 days that followed, Trump became the third president impeached by the House of Representatives; America assassinated Iranian general Qassem Soleimani; more than 200,000 Americans died from the disease caused by the novel coronavirus; the unemployment rate rose from 3.7 percent to 10.2 percent; the US banned incoming travel from Europe, China, and Brazil; an estimated 12 million people lost health insurance coverage; Trump pardoned Roger Stone, who was facing jail time for dirty tricks on the president’s behalf; and George Floyd’s murder sparked a nationwide movement protesting for racial justice — to which officials responded by tear-gassing demonstrators in Lafayette Park in Washington, DC, so Trump could pose for a photograph holding a Bible.

That is, of course, a bitterly incomplete list of a grimly consequential year in American history. But you’d never know it simply by following Trump’s poll numbers. On August 27, 2020 — one year later, and the day Trump used the White House as a backdrop for his convention speech — FiveThirtyEight had Trump at 42.2 percent approval and 54.3 percent disapproval. Everything had happened, and politically, nothing had mattered. Or, at the least, not much had changed.

“It’s really remarkable,” says Jennifer Victor, a political scientist at George Mason University. “The stability of Trump’s numbers are almost unbelievable.”

It’s a good question, honestly. Lets ask it ourselves:

Can anything change Americans’ minds about Donald Trump?

At ever turn he is faced with charges of corruption from people who are clearly in position to make a charge stick and get a conviction.

Nope. No corruption.

We got hit by a global pandemic that was supposed to wipe us out. He is seeing our way through it. We are actually doing very well with the illness despite efforts domestic and international to inflate numbers and corrupt data. We’re still alive and kicking. And it’s all due to his leadership to not only stay safe but also pay our bills and keep each other afloat.

Peace in the middle east ? Nailed it, apparently.

DROVES of liberals ashamed at their party and those who also call themselves Liberal are leaving and coming to our side. All that while under constant threat of injury or death for doing so. Paint these people’s fingertips purple because it’s similar to what Iraqi citizens faced when they cast their votes.

We’re putting things in space again. Not only the government but our private citizens.

He lightened eco restrictions and guess what ? We’re still buying and operating fuel efficient cars. Our air is getting cleaner.

You wanna talk about slaves ? How about our President, Donald Trump, being the ONLY one that is actively calling for our country to move away from Chinese goods and business ? They use slaves, ya’know.

So yeah, none of these things - and more - will appear to change minds. So those people can just go away. Or die. Or something. I really don’t care. They are only ruining things.

I am sure there are some more lies you can trot out to try to persuade those of us who are sick of the media effing lying all day and all night long. If ever you tell an actual fact, you recant it.

You start with this inglorious piece of purplish prose:Trump pardoned Roger Stone, who was facing jail time for dirty tricks on the president’s behalf; and George Floyd’s murder sparked a nationwide movement protesting for racial justice — to which officials responded by tear-gassing demonstrators in Lafayette Park in Washington, DC, so Trump could pose for a photograph holding a Bible.

As Barr said, was that before or after the fire was put out, set by those same peaceful tear gassed protestors just seeking racial justice.

What you might do is try giving all of this a rest and then try telling the truth. It's beyond you, I know, but give it a whirl.

Funny it turns out that nobody else, not Bush, not Obama, not Hillary actually wanted peace in the Middle East.

The thing is, we know his heart. He is brash, and ballsy, but has a kind heart and he loves our country and our cops and firefighters and most of all our military. He doesn’t like wounded warriors? Really? Then why does he go to Walter Reed? Why does he go to Arlington when no one is with him? Why does he go to Dover to receive their bodies when they come home? Why does he fight so hard to end stupid, senseless wars?

The media thinks we are stupid but it’s quite the opposite. The Dummies in Washington and the morons in the media don’t understand, without us, they are nothing. No paychecks, no food on their tables, no houses, Nothing.

The stability unnerves me because it undermines the basic theory of responsive democracy. If our political divisions cut so deep that even 200,000 deaths and 10.2 percent unemployment and a president musing about bleach injections can’t shake us

The problem is the bullsh*t flag. Trump's supporters keep raising it.

First of all, we all know these COVID numbers are inflated by orders of magnitude to include mostly elderly people with multiple co-morbidities who already had one foot inside death's door. And yes, in at least one case, a gunshot victim was listed as COVID. The unemployment numbers come from shutting down the economy, decisions made by Democrat state governors with the tacit approval of the Democratic Party because they'd hoped a ruined economy would make Trump look bad. So, yes, the Democrats allowed the American economy to be obliterated because Orange Man bad.

And injecting bleach? That's another one of those "Nazis are good people" lies where you take something he said, twist it out of context, and then try to present it as the president's verbatim comments.

We see through all of this crap! It stinks of desperation! and that's why Trump's supporters are sticking with him.

It's almost as if the left is saying, "How many more lies must we make up before you stop supporting Trump?!?!?"

It is also clear that being nice in tone to Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer and James Comey and the Washington post and Vox would not have gained him any sympathy from those parties it would just be Giving them credibility access compromise and weaken his administration and policies.

The better question which fascinates me is: How will the defeated react after a Trump whomping, the likes of which may even surpass Nixon’s, and Reagan’s.

Whimper away ? Riot ? Recalibrate ? Impeach ?

House leadership will change clearly, if they lose majority, and maybe even if they cling to it and will play into their stance.

“scandal of the century; sick, elderly people have died...!”

Another one with the “worthless, old, sick people” mantra. In addition to it being untrue - plenty of younger victims - who are you to decide if someone is just a “clump of cells”?

While that 200,000 figure is inflated for effect, your attitude is despicable. Some of those 192,000+ dead may have had decades, possibly even long enough for a cure for their condition to have been found. Your callous disregard for the value of all human life speaks volumes about your character.

When Trump first came down the escalator in 2015 my girlfriend was like, “yuk”.

When Trump starting winning she was like “no way, Jose”.

When Trump won she was “I can’t believe it”.

Today, after all of Trump’s winning she’s like “I bought my new KEEP AMERICA GREAT hoodie! How do you like it!!??”
